Homicide investigation continues in Kennett, MO

KENNETT, MO (KFVS) -

The Kennett Police Department is still investigating a homicide that happened early Saturday morning.

According to police around 1 a.m. Saturday, the department received a call of shots fired around the area of Masons Café at Commercial and North Baldwin streets.

When officer arrived, they found that two people had been shot a number of times.

Officers learned that the first victim, William Thomas, Jr., had died as the result of several gunshot wounds.

One person went to a home to seek shelter and the other was taken to an area hospital.

The ambulance service was dispatched to an address on North Baldwin to attend to the second victim, Taneka Parker of Kennett, while officers went to the hospital. She's been released, according to police.

An autopsy has been scheduled Monday for William Thomas, Jr.

The Kennett Police Department, along with members of the Dunklin County Major Case Squad are currently investigating the shooting. 

The Missouri Highway Patrol is assisting with the investigation.

Police Chief John Dennis is asking residents to come forward with any information.

Police believe there are several people who witnessed the incident.

Family and friends gathered Sunday around the site where Thomas was shot and built a memorial. 

Family members say they want to know what happened. They say Thomas was a good man who was loved very much and will be deeply missed.

No one is in custody.
