FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Emergency management officials in Southern Illinois are preparing for the worst as severe weather is expected to hit many parts of the Heartland Thursday.

Director Ryan Buckingham of the Franklin County Illinois Emergency Management Agency said all emergency personnel are on standby.

Nearly 4,000 homes lost power in Franklin County Thursday.

Buckingham said his staff are monitoring the weather conditions and are taking to social media to warn residents in that area in the event of a storm.

“At this point, everyone needs to be aware of what's going,” Buckingham said.

The Director pointed out that it's important that folks get to the lowest area in their home in the event of a severe storm.
