Sheriff's office says neighbors helped nab burglar in KY

GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A man faces burglary and other charges according to the Graves County Sheriff's Office.

James Matthew, “Matt”, Ellegood, 24, of Fancy Farm faces two counts of attempted burglary second degree, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of burglary tools.

According to the sheriff's office says shortly before noon on Wednesday, they received a call of a possible burglary in progress on KY 1241 in the Viola, Kentucky community.

Neighbors saw a man trying to gain entry into their neighbors' residence and called 911.

The man left the home and the witnesses followed him. He then went to a home on Beasley Loop in the Viola community and tried to enter another home.

Upon deputies arrival several neighbors had the suspect's vehicle blocked in the driveway of the Beasley Loop residence.

Ellegood was taken into custody.

The sheriff's office says he had a club hidden under the driver's seat of his vehicle and was in possession of burglary tools.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by; Kentucky State Police and several neighbors.

The sheriff's office thanks the alert neighbors for their assistance.
