MARSTON, MO (KFVS) -

Despite being faced with a grim diagnosis, a pastor in Matston, Missouri is determined to finish what he started.

Just last month, doctors told Pastor Frank Townsend he had stage four colon cancer.

It's unclear how much time he has left, but one thing that is clear is how he will be spending the rest of his life.

The walls are up on the Free Trinity Pentecostal Church.

"I am well pleased with how everything is going,” said Pastor Frank Townsend.

But Pastor Townsend says he has a long road ahead of him.

"They found the cancer, which was Stage 4 of the colon with 40 percent blockage and also in both lungs,” he said.

The diagnosis came just as the church was beginning to take shape, but it isn't deterring him in any way and says he won't give up his fight until the church is finished.

"We want the best for god because he gave his best for us,” he said.

But, he has some help.

News that Pastor Townsend was terminally ill brought out the best in folks around town.

Many of them donating their time and supplies to help make sure he sees it complete.

"This news that I got about my terminal cancer has even drove me stronger,” he said.

Pastor Townsend expects it will be another six months before anyone can begin to worship here.

It is time he won't take for granted.

"That's good enough for me,” said Pastor Townsend.

Volunteers will be meeting Saturday morning to help out with construction.

Anyone willing to lend a hand is welcome to join.
