Cape Girardeau Co. use tax passed

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Cape Girardeau County use tax barely passed on Tuesday night.

With all precincts reporting, 3,532 voters said "yes" and "3,520 voters said "no."

According to the county clerk, they cannot certify the results until Friday afternoon.

She said once the results are official, any registered voter in Cape Girardeau County can file a petition with the Clerk of the Circuit Court.

This would present a local use tax at the same rate as the total sales tax rate, which is current at 1 percent. The purpose is to provide funding for capital improvements to include a new courthouse facility.
