HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) - A Saline County, Illinois community is up in arms about mining that's creeped closer to their homes.

Folks living along Rocky Branch Road in Harrisburg say that in just the past six months, their quiet rural community has been interrupted by explosions.

Longtime resident Stephen Karns said the work takes place just a couple hundred feet from his property and is disturbing him and his neighbors.

Karns said he's convinced it has even taken a toll on his home. He pointed out broken screws on a window in his home and cracked mortar in his foundation.

Karns said his family has had offers to sell their property in the past year but declined.

Karns said his family has live on that property for 100 years and couldn't see themselves calling anywhere else home.
