Harrisburg library keeps up with digital age

April is National Library Month, and from cooking to learning a new language, libraries have all kinds of books for different ages and interests.

But with technology and the internet becoming the norm, especially among kids, libraries, like the one in Harrisburg, are making sure to stay relevant in this digital age.

And it's by having online tools such as E-libraries.

"So instead of buying these e-books for eight dollars, nine dollars, you can check them out for free just like you check out a book," Harrisburg librarian Krystal Gulley. "So we see that more and more where people come in with the e-readers and we can get them on those e-libraries and then they can check out."

Harrisburg has two e-libraries -- one called Southern Illinois libraries On The GO! and one that's an app called 3M Cloud Library, for those that like to read digitally.

"The libraries are more than just books," Gulley said. "We have the librarians here to help you, there's always a reason to come here. You just have to explore all the opportunities we have here."

Harrisburg is just one of many libraries that have these electronic tools.

Be sure to check out your local branch to see if e-libraries are available and to find out what other programs they provide.
