CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - The biggest accumulation of snow southern Illinois has seen this winter season is putting a damper on small businesses in the area.

Businesses that rely on heavy foot traffic such as boutiques and restaurants have been hit hard.

The County Cupboard, a restaurant in Carterville, Illinois, was forced to close Monday because of the snow.

Assistant Manager Dorothy Karavites says threat of falling temperatures is keeping customers at home.

“Most of the people that come here are senior citizens," Karavites said. "And they're not going to get out in this kind of weather.”

The weather isn't stopping every business. Just a few blocks away at ArtWorks Custom Graphics, owner Tim Nation says he couldn't take a day off.

“I do have a retail establishment here, but I do a lot of commercial work, so, I still had orders that were in house that needed to be done to met a deadline," Nation said.

Nation said he's used the past couple of "Snow Days" to catch up on work.
