Suspect in shooting at Carbondale school sentenced to 25 years

The Jackson County State's Attorney says that a Carbondale man was sentenced to prison for a shooting at the Carbondale District # 165- Rebound High School in January 2014.

Omari A. Tinsley, 19, of Carbondale, was convicted in Jackson County Circuit Court of aggravated battery with a firearm and was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison.

A number of students witnessed the incident and identified Tinsley as the shooter.

Tinsley was not found by police until February 13, 2014. The shooting happened on Jan. 26, 2014.

He has been in custody since that time.

The investigation was conducted by the Carbondale Police Department. State's Attorney Michael C. Carr prosecuted this case.
