Students will test accounting skills in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Southern Illinois University will host a calculating competition just in time for tax season.

More than 300 students from 21 high schools and four community colleges will put their computing skills to the test at the 17th annual Accounting Challenge in Carbondale.

The competition is more than calculators and computer programs. In past years, participants were challenged to build a device that would keep an egg from cracking after being dropped from a high distance. Other challenges involved creating flying objects and capsules designed to protect fruit from being crushed by a hammer.

The event is sponsored by the School of Accountancy in the College of business.

Student will be competing for a chance to win scholarships and other prizes.

The event begins on Friday, Feb. 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the small gymnasium in the Student Recreation Center.
