Sikeston High school students compete for a $20,000 scholarship

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - More than 150 Sikeston, Missouri High School students are competing for a $20,000 scholarship.

The students are participating in a personal finance and accounting challenge.

The students get together and are given a certain amount of fake money to learn budgeting and money management skills without the consequences of making mistakes.

One student says the lessons are the real reward.

"The most important thing that I took away from the competition is that you have to prepare and budget, and, I guess you could say, make a provision for any unexpected circumstance that can occur,” Senior Zachary Grady said. “Life's not static."

H and R Block is sponsoring the competition. Last year they gave away more than $3 million in grants and scholarships in the program.
