CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Sites like Craigslist are like digital yard sales, but users rarely meet before buying or selling to one another.
Police advise to always meet in a public place, bring a friend and to never reveal any personal information such as where you live.
Robert Reyes said he's bought tools, Blackhawk tickets, even a canoe from Craigslist sellers.
"Whenever you're going to be on a public website like that, there's going to be risks," Reyes said.
Reyes said his previous purchases have gone smooth, but is always cautious.
"If I'm purchasing stuff or if my wife is purchasing stuff than yes, I'd like to go with her just to be sure it's not some creepy guy," Reyes said.
