Man seriously injured when car goes into ravine in McCracken Co.

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Benton, Kentucky man suffered serious injuries after his car ran into a deep ravine Thursday evening in McCracken County.

According to the sheriff's department, around 7:40 p.m. a call came in from Bryant Ford Road after someone found an overturned car in a creek at the bottom of a ravine.

Deputies on scene found that 37-year-old Kenneth Mason was trapped inside the car which was upside down in the water.

Officials say Mason was taken out of the car after an extensive extrication by the Reidland and Farley fire departments.

Mason was treated at the scene and then taken to Baptist Health for injuries that officials say appeared to be serious. Mason was eventually transferred to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

Deputies discovered that before the crash, Mason was driving south on Bryant Ford Road when he missed a curve, drove down the ravine and into the creek. The car then flipped over.

Officials say the sheriff's department has investigated a lot of crashes in this area where drivers have missed the curve and go off the road.

The cause for Mason's crash is not known, but the investigation is ongoing.

According to deputies, an interview with Mason wasn't possible, since he was unconscious during the investigation.
