Heartland crews prepare for winter weather

(KFVS) - Transportation departments across the Heartland expressed concern about ice ahead of the winter weather expected to hit early on Thursday morning.

Keith Miley with the Illinois Department of Transportation said they didn't want to take any chances.

Crews got orders to pre-treat the roads on Wednesday morning and they are on standby in case conditions begin to get nasty.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is most concerned that high humidity and low temperatures might cause some icy situations.

That is why crews pretreated all bridges and overpasses today.

The Missouri Department of Transportation did not pre-treat any of the roads in the southeast region, but they are monitoring the situation and will adjust if needed.

All of the departments want to remind drivers to slow down though, especially before you get to the bridges and overpasses which typically get more slick than the road.
