MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

Terri Bryant of Murphysboro was sworn in Friday as a state representative for the 115th district in southern Illinois.

Bryant was sworn into office 12 days before the inauguration of the 99th Illinois General Assembly.

She fills the vacancy after Mike Bost was elected to Congress.

“I am ready to go to work for the people of southern Illinois,” Rep. Bryant said. “Our state faces many challenges and I'm honored to be filling the shoes of someone who has represented our area so ardently for so many years. I'll continue to fight for good-paying jobs and our values while listening to my constituents.”

"Today, we welcome Terri Bryant into the House Republican Caucus,” House Republican Leader Jim Durkin said. “Terri will be joining the General Assembly at a historic moment and I am thankful to have as a strong member of our team. I know Terri to be thoughtful, precise and hardworking which will serve the taxpayers and residents of the 115th well."

Bryant was elected state representative in the November 2014 election.
