Ways to save for the new year

(KFVS) - Staying focused on how much you want to save is key when it comes to building up for the new year.

Here are a few useful tips on how to save more for 2015:
  • Make a “non-negotiable's” list. Write down what needs to be paid each month. Whether it's mortgage, a car payment, credit cards, etc., take care of those bills as soon as possible. Afterwards, you can focus on what can be put in savings and personal spending money.
  • Pay off that credit card debt. Once that debt is gone, that'll be one less bill to worry about.
  • Check your balance daily. See what you have been spending and see where you could be saving. If you can, have some of your paycheck go straight to your savings.
  • Heading out? Lights Out! If you're leaving the house, turn off the lights, and unplug anything that doesn't need to run while you're gone. A lower electric usage helps cut costs.
  • Pack your lunch and eat out less. Cooking more and finding deals in the grocery store will put more money in your pocket each month.
  • Make a plan of how much you want to save and stick to it. Ask friends or family to be your accountability buddies.
