Dive team to resume retrieval of car from river months later

NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) -

In the new year, possibly January of February, the Missouri State Highway Patrol dive team plans to go back and continue searching the Mississippi River. That's according to New Madrid Police Chief, Joey Higgerson.

In October during a fishing tournament, a fisherman found a car in the river near a boat ramp south of New Madrid.

According to Chief  Higgerson, the river levels and the local patrols' involvement in Ferguson stalled the process of the search.

Barbara Stoffer, 83, from New Madrid, went missing in August 2013. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and crews from several cities searched for her or her vehicle throughout the county by air, water and ground.

Higgerson said they don't know if this is Barbara Stoffer's car.

He said a $50,000 reward is still being offered for information related to the arrest and conviction of anyone related to involved in Stoffer's disappearance. The investigation is ongoing.
