Electric cooperative warns members of possible scam

The SEMO Electric Cooperative is warning members about a possible scam.

The cooperative said it has received information from multiple members about a possible phone scam in the area.

The members say they received an automated phone call telling them their bill was past due, when it fact it wasn't.

The automated call asked for payment to be made through the automated system.

According to the cooperative, those that received the called did not turn over any personal information.

SEMO Electric said it does provide courtesy calls to members who are past due. However, it does not ask for immediate payment in the automated call.

If you you think you have received one of those calls, you can contact SEMO Electric at 1-800-813-5230.
