Man arrested in connection with Mt. Vernon stabbing

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) -

The Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating a report of a stabbing on Saturday, December 7.

Joseph A. Dotson, 26, was charged with aggravated battery - great bodily harm.

At around 5:26 a.m. police say they received a report of a stabbing victim in the emergency room of a Mt. Vernon hospital.

According to police, the victim was stabbed on the parking lot of an apartment building on North 42nd Street in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

With the help of the Jefferson County States Attorney Doug Hoffman, detectives applied for a search warrant for the suspect's home at the Valley Forge Apartments.

At around 11:50 a.m. officers served the search warrant and arrested Dotson.

He was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center with bond to be set.

Police say the victim continues to recover in the hospital.
