ILLINOIS (KFVS) - A patient in Illinois tested negative for Ebola.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, an individual who recently traveled from West Africa was experiencing a fever and respiratory symptoms.

The patient was transported to a hospital following stringent infection control protocols.

Tests show the patient did not have Ebola.

The test was done as a precaution.

“At this time, there have been no confirmed cases of Ebola in Illinois and there is no threat to the general public," IDPH Director Dr. LaMar Hasbrouch said in a news release. "Travelers from Africa may experience illnesses such as malaria or respiratory illness due to other non-Ebola associated diseases."
