A Metropolis man is in custody after allegedly attempting to murder a resident in their home in McCracken County, Ky. on Thursday.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Deryck Jasper Carter (AKA D.J. Carter), 25, is facing charges related to the incident.

Deputies arrived at a home on Old US Highway 60, after getting a call about a home invasion.

Residents inside the home told emergency crews that two men entered the house and one was armed with a handgun.

The suspects reportedly confronted an occupants that was sleeping and began striking him in the head with the gun.

During the confrontation, the victim said the suspect shot the gun at him and it nearly missed his head.

The suspects also took an assault rifle and a 9mm cabrine rifle and got away before deputies arrived.

After processing the scene, detectives identified Carter as the shooter.

Further investigation also showed Carter had violated an emergency protection order after verbally threatening a female who lives in the area of Cairo Road.

Around 7 p.m. on Dec. 26, Metropolis Police arrested Carter, who was staying at an apartment complex in the city.

After issuing a warrant to search Carter's apartment, police found drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The search also led to the arrest of Carter's farther, Joe.

Metropolis police say earlier this year, Joe and D.J. were reportedly involved in a stabbing and both were out on bond.

The incident is still under investigation.

However, detectives believe the incident partially stemmed from an earlier disturbance that occurred at the home days prior along with harassment on social media.

D.J. is currently being held in the Massac County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
