CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Hundreds of Volunteers served up Christmas dinner at Central Junior High in Cape Girardeau today.

This is the first time Student Santas has put on the event.

They expected to feed anywhere from 400 to 500 people... with all the fixings... from turkey to cake.

Some marine's even dropped off gifts for the kids.

The founder of Student Santas, Jennifer Gast, said it's an honor to give back this time of year.

Gast says for her paying it forward captures the true meaning of Christmas.

"It gives you such a warm feeling to see people coming together to help other people," Gast said. "I teach this to my kids, and hopefully one day they will pass this along. I hope it goes full circle. I hope that some of the folks that come here to eat a good meal today will remember this and maybe want to help someone else later on."

Cape Girardeau residents said they appreciate it.

"It's very had to afford," Myron Todd said. "And it's nice to see people that actually give in the community, rather than take."

Gast said says she hopes to make this dinner a tradition and feed more people next year.
