'Peace, Joy, Hope, and Love,' message of Christmas eve church service

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Hundreds of Millions of people across the world are celebrating the last night of advent before Christmas arrives on December 25.
"Peace, Joy, Hope, and Love" was shared in the Christmas eve service at the Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Carbondale, Illinois tonight.

“For us tonight is about us talking about how Jesus is the light of the world who has overcome things through hope and joy and peace and love,"  Lead Minister Jon Hughes said.

Tonight people who attended the church service read scripture, sang traditional Christmas songs, and lit candles to celebrate Christmas…

“It's really just coming together as a church to celebrate Christmas," church service attendee Madison Williard said. "It's always fun to open presents and Santa and all that – but really the true meaning is Jesus.”

Minster Hughes says Christmas is also about giving. The church has been collecting food items as well as clothes and gifts to give away to families in need this season.
