Paducah man facing DUI charges after Christmas Eve wreck
PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -
The McCracken County sheriff's office says a Paducah, Kentucky man is facing DUI and other charges after a wreck on Christmas Eve.
McCracken County Sheriff's deputies responded to a single vehicle collision at the intersection of Husbands Road and Jones Road shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to the sheriff's office, Shawn P. Brandsetter, 50, of Paducah, was driving northbound on Husbands Road. Officers says due to being under the influence, Brandsetter failed to negotiate a curve in the road and hit a tree.
An off-duty McCracken County deputy sheriff arrived on scene to render aid, and spoke to Brandsetter.
According to the sheriff's office, Brandsetter made statements about being under the influence to the off-duty deputy who was in plain clothes.
After officers arrived on scene, the sheriff's office says Brandsetter tried to destroy a bag of marijuana and rolling papers by stomping the items into the mud to conceal them from officers.
Brandsetter was taken into custody.
The sheriff's office says Brandsetter faces the following charges:
-Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs 1st offense. -Possession of marijuana -Possession of drug paraphernalia -Tampering with physical evidence -Failure to notify the department of transportation of an address change
