Stoddard County man facing charges after incident involving knife

The Stoddard County, Missouri sheriff's office says a man faces a number of charges after a domestic incident involving a knife.

According to the probable cause statement, Robbie Lee Kleinsmith faces assault 3rd degree, domestic assault, resisting arrest and property damage 3rd degree charges.

On December 22, officers were dispatched Essex, Missouri on a domestic disturbance call.

Dispatch advised there was a possible knife involved. When the officer arrived, the Missouri Highway Patrol was on the scene.

Officers learned the man had put a knife to his throat during the argument, and the woman called 911. The man reportedly then grabbed the flip phone and broke it in half.

The sheriff's office said the man resisted arrest and started to swing his fists.

Officers tried to tase the man, but the taser malfunctioned.

Officers were able to take the man on the ground and put him in custody.

The man was taken to Stoddard County Jail and placed on a 24 hour hold.
