Coast Guard responding to barge collision near Joppa, IL

JOPPA, IL (KFVS) -

The Coast Guard is currently responding to a barge collision on the Ohio River near Joppa, Illinois.

Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley was told that the crash took place between the towing vessel Christina Belcher, pushing two crude oil barges, and a loaded sand barge at mile marker 952 around 3 a.m. Wednesday

There were no injuries reported but one of the oil barges was damaged. There are no reports of pollution from that barge.

The sand barge was reportedly damaged and sank.

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah, Kentucky, are on scene and will supervise response and recovery.

The cause is under investigation.

    Health officials plan to give updates Kentucky's Hepatitis A outbreak, including initiatives to slow it.

    In the midst of the largest hepatitis A outbreak in Kentucky's history, health officials are urging anyone who lives in a county where cases have been confirmed to get vaccinated.

    A Harrisburg man was found guilty of multiple charges on Thursday, July 19. 47-year-old Jerry D. Leach was found guilty of a Class 4 felony charge of Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer and a Class A misdemeanor charge of Driving While Driver's License is Suspended.
