Gas prices are lower, but spending stays same

(KFVS) - As gas prices rise, the average consumer hesitates on their spending, says Greg McBride, chief financial analyst with Bankrate. However, as prices are lowered, it doesn't necessarily mean spending increases.

According to and, the average two-car household is saving $50 a month on gasoline. But, that doesn't mean the extra money is being spent though.

Waylen Hawkes, a cab driver in Maryland, estimates he's saving an extra $1000 a month because of reduced prices. But he believes "it isn't going to stay this way."

Marguerite Copper a human resource manager with a security company worries the prices will go back up.

"I wish that I could take some gas and just store it somewhere in my house, but that would be unethical," Copper said.
