Mt. Vernon man awaiting sentencing for murder

JEFFERSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A Mount Vernon, Illinois man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in connection to a murder.

Jefferson County States Attorney Douglas Hoffman says Damondros Q. James, 21, has entered an open plea of guilty to first degree murder in connection to his involvement in the shooting death of Charles Ellis on May 31, 2011.

Charles Ellis, 75, was found dead in his cab. He was shot in the back during an attempted robbery.

Hoffman says James' sentencing date has not been announced.

James faces a sentence of between 20 and 60 years in prison and must serve all of his sentence.

James has agreed to testify at the trials of the co-defendants, Demandre Black, Mark Taylor and Christopher Wells. if needed.

Christopher Wells previously entered an open plea of guilty to first degree murder and is awaiting sentencing.
