KY woman charged during traffic safety checkpoint

HENDERSON, KY (KFVS) -

A Waverly, Kentucky woman is facing drug charges after driving through a traffic safety checkpoint in Henderson late Thursday night.

According to Kentucky State Police, troopers were running the checkpoint on Highway 41 at KY 136 when around 11:19 p.m. a car driven by 35-year-old Kristina Cook came through.

KSP says a trooper approached Cook's car and smelled marijuana. More investigating uncovered around five grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Cook was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, no registration receipt, no registration plate and failure of owner to maintain required insurance.

She was taken to the Henderson County Detention Center.
