NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - After nearly a year long investigation, the New Madrid County Sheriff's Department arrested two suspects wanted in relation to thefts at three different stores in southeast Missouri.

Both Rickey Smith and Edward Cummings were arrested in Memphis.

The sheriff's department believes booth men were involved in stealing money from the Dollar General Store in Portageville, the Flying J Truck Stop, and the Car-Mack's in Steele in December 2013.

Surveillance video tipped deputies off that the same two men were involved in all three incidents.

Deputies used this information to get records from cell phone towers that eventually allowed them to identify these men as suspects in the crimes.

Smith was arrested in Memphis on Nov. 10, 2014 and is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail on a $40,000 cash or surety bond.

Cummings was arrested in Memphis on Dec. 10, 2014 on a $40,000 cash or surety bond and is being held at the Shelby County Detention Center in Memphis.

He is awaiting extradition back to Missouri.

Both men may face additional charges in other jurisdictions.
