Man accused of pointing deer rifle at authorities

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

Police say a man is facing charges after authorities say he fired a gun inside his home, and pointed a rifle at law enforcement.

Shortly after 10:15 on Wednesday, the Stoddard County, Missouri Sheriff's Department responded to Timber Creek Subdivision after someone reportedly fired a gun inside his home.

According Dexter, Missouri police, authorities met with the suspect's family members outside the residence and were told the suspect had fired two shots in a bedroom window.

Officers were told family members had collected all the gun inside the home prior to deputies' arrival and the suspect was still inside the home.

Officers found the suspect inside his bedroom sitting on a bed with a deer rifle lying across his legs.

Police say the suspect pointed the rifle at the officers and they immediately took cover.

The

officers were able to rush the suspect and were able to take possession of the rifle.

The suspect was taken into custody. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The 55-year-old suspect's name is being withheld until official charges are filed by the Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

The incident is still under investigation by police.
