CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A World War II veteran received a special honor Wednesday.

Glennon Welker, 88, received a flag from Congressman Jason Smith that flew over the U.S. Capitol on Veterans Day.

His sons and their wives in addition to friends and residents of the Missouri Veterans Home were all there for the honor.

"It's very special to the family its one of the things we knew dad served during World War II and he's told stories about being on Okinawa and things that went on and have him to get an award like this and to be presented with a flag is just for the rest of the family it makes us very proud what dad was able to do for his country back then," said Jerry Welker, Glennon's son.

"It's probably a lot more honor that I'm really worth," Glennon Welker said. "I would do it again if I had to."

His brother Wilburt previously received a flag from Congresswoman JoAnn Emerson in honor of his service.

Both brothers served in World War II. At one point they were both stationed in Hawaii, but neither knew the other was there, and they never ran into each other.
