2 Graves Co. men arrested in separate incidents, officers recover live grenade

Two Graves County men were arrested on Monday, Dec. 15 in separate incidents, both involving drugs and guns, according to deputies.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office says one officer recovered a live grenade.

Delton Howry, 33, of the Farmington, was charged with trafficking in controlled substance first degree, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance first degree two counts, possession of a controlled substance second degree, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cole Fields, 19, of Wingo, was charged with possession of destructive device or booby trap device, possession of controlled substance first degree, trafficking in marijuana, possession of a defaced firearm, carrying concealed deadly weapon two counts, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to or improper signal.

According to Sheriff Dewayne Redmon, around 2:30 p.m. he and a deputy responded to the Golo community of Graves County for a complaint of a suspicious person.

When they found the person, identified as Howry, they say he appeared to be under the influence of an illegal narcotic.

During a search of his vehicle, Sheriff Redmon said they found a quantity of meth, marijuana and controlled medications.

In addition, he said a handgun was found in the vehicle, along with scales and a large sum of money believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales.

Sheriff Redmon said Howry is a convicted felon and under state statutes, he is not allowed to have a handgun.

At the same time as this incident, Sheriff Redmon said drug detectives with the Graves County Division pulled over Fields on Cuba Road in Mayfield.

As detectives approached the vehicle, they say a barrel of a shotgun was seen in the floorboard between the driver's leg and the door.

Fields and his juvenile passenger were removed from the vehicle.

Officers say Fields had a knife (box cutter blade) in his right, front pocket.

During a search of the vehicle, officers say a shotgun was found beside the seat. They say the stock and barrel had been sawed off and the barrel was about 1 inch long.

In addition, officers say the serial number had been removed from the side of the gun.

Inside a Crown Royal bag, officers say a 40mm grenade was recovered that had not been fired. They say the grenade was found next to the shotgun.

According to officers, Fields also had meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside a metal lockbox in the floorboard by his feet.

Officers say the juvenile tried to hide that he had marijuana by allegedly throwing a cigarette box on the ground, claiming that the package was empty.

Both Howry and Fields were taken to the Graves County Jail and the juvenile was taken to his house and released to his mother after being cited to court.

A special agent with the Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives responded to help in the investigation and federal charges are pending on Fields in connection to the items that he allegedly had.

The Paducah Police Department Bomb Squad responded to take the explosive device.
