CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

American Legion Riders and other riders set up wreaths at the entrances of six cemeteries Sunday in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Missouri.

This is the seventh year that the American Legion chapter has set up the four foot wreaths in honor of veterans who fought in the military but aren't buried in a national cemetery.

Leo McElrath IV says it's an important to honor Veterans not just in national cemeteries but other cemeteries where veterans are buried as well.

"The veterans, we fought for the right for everybody to have the right to go protest if they want to protest," McElrath said. "The veterans are the ones who fought for all the rights we have today."

This year they also donated $1,000 to four local organizations.

A check of $250 was given each to the AMEN Center in Delta, Toys for Tots with the Marine Corp League, Salvation Army and Heroes Way to help with their needs.

The cemeteries visited were Old Lorimer, New Lorimer, Cape Memorial Park, Russell Heights, Jackson City, and St. Mary's Cemetery.
