Deputies: Woman said she hit deer, actually hit mailbox

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah woman is facing charges including driving under the influence after telling police she hit a deer Monday night when she actually hit a mailbox.

According to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department, around 10 p.m. a call came in for a crash involving a deer on Fairview Drive.

After investigating, deputies found that 42-year-old Dana Finley left the scene of the crash in the 1000 block of Highland Church Road and was later found at a local hospital.

Officials say Finley tried to lie to police by saying she hit a deer when in fact she ran off the road and hit a mailbox.

After talking with Finley more, deputies found she was under the influence of alcohol.

Finley was charged with driving under the influence, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident. After being cited, she was released because of her injuries.
