Bernie man facing drug charges after traffic stop

BERNIE, MO (KFVS) -

Police say a southeast Missouri man is facing drug related charges after a traffic stop on Sunday, Dec. 7.

Christopher (John) Pankow, 28, of Bernie, Missouri faces charges of possession of controlled substance. His bond was set at $15,000 cash only.

According to Bernie police, the department arranged through a confidential informant to purchase methamphetamine from Pankow.

After a crystal-type substance was bought, a traffic stop was done and when Pankow got out of his vehicle he threw a plastic baggy on the ground that contained a crystal-type substance and a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine.

Pankow then granted officers permission to search his vehicle.

During the search officers discovered marijuana, paraphernalia used to smoke marijuana and a hydrocodone pill (narcotic).

Pankow was taken to the Bernie Police Department and booked into the Bernie City Jail.

Warrants were applied through the Stoddard County Prosecutors office.

Police say Pankow is on probation and is a registered sex offender.
