CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A lot of children are now getting the meals they need to survive thanks to thousands of people's efforts.

Feed my Starving Children kicked off in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Friday, and continued through Sunday at the Osage Center.

An estimated 3,000 volunteers took part in this event making sure children across the world have food in their stomachs.

People of all ages were bagging up hundreds of thousands of bags filled with the necessary nutrient-filled foods. The bags are slated to ship out to children in nearly 70 countries.

Volunteers packed the Osage Center with each having their own job. Bags were filled with rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins and minerals with vegetarian flavoring.

Each bag contains six meals. There will be enough meals to feed each hungry child once a day for a year.

People we talked with say it's important that those kids get the meals they need to survive.

Organizers say that these children need this food to help them focus on other essentials in life including education.
