Murphysboro man rescued after getting lost near Gorham

GORHAM, IL (KFVS) - A Murphysboro man who got lost in rugged terrain and stuck in some mud near Gorham was rescued Wednesday morning.

The parents of a Murphysboro man contacted the Jackson County Sheriff's Office after not hearing from him since 8 p.m. Tuesday and the man did not return home Wednesday morning.

His vehicle was found Wednesday morning at the end of Happy Hollow Road in Gorham on top of Fountain Bluff. Deputies searched the rugged terrain on foot and found the man alive.

The man had driven to the area to hike in the woods. He became disoriented and got stuck in the mud.

The man survived overnight and had no obvious injuries.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Gorham Fire Department and the Jackson County Ambulance Service.
