PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

A Paducah, Kentucky woman is accused of starving a three year old.

Janine Denise Priddy, 43, was charged with one count of first degree criminal abuse.

According to Kentucky State Police, Priddy was arrested on Dec. 3 after a lengthy investigation. The case was eventually presented to the McCracken County Grand Jury on Nov. 21.

Police say the investigation began after medical professionals determined that the life-threatening condition of the child was not caused by disease or sickness, but instead came from chronic starvation and a lack of fluid intake.

First degree criminal abuse, when the victim is 12 years old or younger, is a Class C felony. It carries a potential penalty of five to 10 years in the penitentiary.

Priddy was taken to the McCracken County Detention Center where she is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

KSP says the investigation continues by them and the Department of Community Based Services-Child Protective Services Division.
