CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Downtown Cape Girardeau saw shoppers from all around the area, but not very many early on Saturday.

Downtown business owners says they haven't seen as much as they thought they would Saturday morning for Small Business Saturday.

The owner of Sweet Designs Boutique says the numbers are down from last year for the early part of the day. However, they usually see more business in the afternoon.

Heartland News spoke to dozens of shoppers that were from Cape Girardeau, other parts of southeast Missouri and from southern Illinois.

Some shoppers say this is a great way to get handmade items they wouldn't normally find at chain stores.

Other shoppers said they shop local because they want the money they spend to stay in their area to help the city and the community.
