HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - Residents in Herrin gathered Thursday to enjoy some Thanksgiving food, mingle with friends, and even do a little dancing.

The Herrin Community Thanksgiving Dinner has been a tradition since 1988.

Residents, young and old came to enjoy the food. Volunteers started preparing for the event on Monday.

People say everyone coming together for the holiday is always a great sight to see.

“It brings tears to my eyes,” volunteer Darlene Floyd said. “It's a community coming together for a beautiful thing.”

Interim mayor, Steve Frattini says it's all about residents enjoying the holiday.

“No matter what your profile may be in life or what, this is a day of giving thanks and coming together,” he said.

Volunteers say over 200 deliveries were made to homes already, and they say each year always brings in a larger crowd than the one before.
