HERRIN, IL (KFVS) - Since Monday, volunteers have been seasoning and cooking turkeys and it is all in preparation for the Herrin Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday.

On Wednesday's agenda, volunteers carved and deboned the turkeys that were cooked on Tuesday.

Teens from the Teenagers Making a Difference Community Youth Center also came out Thursday to help out as well.

The Herrin Community Thanksgiving Dinner has been around since 1988.

Volunteers say it's all about bringing people together for the holiday.

“As communities grow bigger and bigger, the people in those communities grow further and further apart,” Coordinator Bart Mann said. “So this is an opportunity for communities to come together, separate our differences, and work for a common goal.”

Teenagers said they were happy to participate and volunteer.

“It's great to help out the community,” said 13-year-old Makenzie Restivo.

There is no charge for anyone attending the event.

Coordinator Bart Mann said donations from civic organizations, businesses and churches pay for everything.

The Turkey Dinner will be held at the Herrin Civic Center. Thanksgiving dinner is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with and there is also a time for leftover from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
