Sheriff's Office: Teen fires shotgun at father in rural Murphyboro


A sheriff's office says a teen was taken into custody after reportedly firing a gun at his father.

On Wednesday shortly before 11:30 a.m., the Jackson County, Illinois sheriff's office responded to a home in rural Murphysboro, Illinois after receiving a 911 call.

The call was from a father saying his 17-year-old son fired a shotgun at him several times.

Deputies arrived and learned that the suspect had teen had went back into the home, and armed himself with a handgun.

The suspect's mother and younger sibling was still in the home.

After about half an hour, the teen was taken into custody

The mother and sibling were not injured.

The father was injured after the son hit the father with his car, just before firing at the father with the shotgun.

No injuries were sustained from any of the gunshots.

The teen was taken to a juvenile detention center.

The sheriff's office was assisted by Muprhysboro PD and the Department of Natural Resources.
