Volunteers prepare for annual Salvation Army Thanksgiving feast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Workers and volunteers at the Salvation Army were busy in the kitchen bright and early Wednesday morning dressing up this year's community feast for those less fortunate. It takes place Thanksgiving Day from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Countless volunteers pitched in to make this year's feast possible, according to Ronnie Amick with the Salvation Army.

Amick says they had multiple donations of canned goods, and big donations from Southeast Missouri State University and the Career and Technology Center. Amick also told Heartland News many private community members called to ask exactly what they needed and pitched in with preparation help and donations.

Volunteers got busy making 78 turkeys and counting as well as cans upon cans of green beans and mashed potatoes.

"It's a fun time in here preparing all the food with other volunteers," said Capt. Bridgette Amick. "When people come through, it's wonderful to see how grateful they are, Some just come to have fellowship with others and some don't have enough to make a meal so they come and they are grateful."

"It's great we are working really hard," said Cramon Mays. "You know I was taught by my mother if you have an opportunity to help somebody you should always take it. You never know where life might take you."

The meal will be held at the building at this address:
