President of Southeast releases statement on Ferguson events

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Ken Dobbins, president of Southeast Missouri State University, has released a statement regarding the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri.

According to Dobbins, approximately 40-percent of the student body at Southeast is from the St. Louis area.

The statement, in part, offers options for housing and support services available to students affected by what's happening in the St. Louis suburb and surrounding area.

Dobbins also expresses a hope for students and staff going forward:

This week and in the weeks to come, I am hopeful that our University community of students, faculty and staff will support one another and take the time to talk respectfully about the greater societal issues raised by these events. The diversity of our student community is one of the characteristics that makes Southeast Missouri State University a wonderful place to learn and to freely express personal beliefs.
