Operation Christmas Child collections to surpass last years total

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Donations have been collected throughout the week at St. Andrews Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. 

It is all for Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan's Purse.

More than 4,000 shoe boxes already have been wrapped and ready to ship off beating last year's total of 3,540.

To add to that, several churches have planned to bring hundreds more each including one that will bring around 700.

Several people on Saturday brought in dozens of boxes in each including one church that brought in over 50.

On Saturday St. Andrews Church were donated over 300 boxes with several churches expecting to bring hundreds each to come.

The shoe boxes will be shipped to Denver, CO and then to Mexico to be distributed.

Volunteers were on hand helping wrap hundreds of shoe boxes full of various items for boys and girls in need.

Volunteers said it's worth their time working to stuff and wrap these boxes for the children so they can have some of the supplies we have on an everyday basis.

The final time to donate is 10 a.m. on Monday.
