CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The 44th Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Extravaganza kicked off in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on Saturday. The two day event features 300 vendors selling only handmade items.

More than 8,000 people have shown up at the two locations in Cape Girardeau.. There are 200 vendors at the Show-Me-Center, and  100 are at the Osage Centre.

There's an assortment of crafts from Christmas items and decorative items.

Shoppers said it's not only a great way to shop for unique Christmas gifts, but is a great way to spend time with loved ones around the holiday season too.

This is the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's largest fundraiser of the year. Last year more than 14,000 came out to the event, and this year is expected to surpass that total.

Vendors say they usually work year round preparing their items and displays for this event.

Sales they see help them and their families buy Christmas gifts. Proceeds also go towards the Arts Council to help with other events throughout the year.

The event continues through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
