BENTON, MO (KFVS) -

A man is accused of claiming to be his brother when booked into a jail.

Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says a Sikeston man charged with forgery.

Kyle Nathan Irvin, 28, was charged with the forgery.

Sheriff Walter says that Irvin was taken to the Scott County Jail on Sunday by another agency on unrelated charges. When Irvin was booked into the jail, the sheriff said Kyle Irvin identified himself as his brother, and signed that name.

Jail Administrator Tina Kolwyck was contacted by the transporting agency the following morning, and was told Irvin was using his brother's name.

When confronted Irvin admitted he had used his brother's name in an attempt to get out of jail.

Deputy Zac Harris completed an investigation and filed a probable cause affidavit.

A warrant was issued on November 18, charging Irvin with the crime.

Sheriff Walter says that it is not uncommon for those arrested to claim they are someone else. They often choose the identity of a family member.

Irvin was booked into the Scott County Jail on this and other charges. Bond was set by the court on this charge at $10,000 cash only.
