MARION, IL (KFVS) - Gander Mountain is opening a store in Marion, Illinois in the spring of 2015. The opening of the store bring in 90 to 100 new jobs to the area with 20 to 25 of those jobs full time positions.
City leaders announced Gander Mountain is coming to Marion, but will it be part of the idle $382 million Starbond Project?
Construction has already started on the 52,000 square foot facility.
Even though City leaders say Gander Mountain is not part of the STAR Bond project, it will directly impact it.
Marion Mayor Bob Butler said if you build it they will come.
"They see the success that is taking place then they are going to be more likely to undertake to do something," said Mayor Butler.
Any business that takes advantage of STAR bonds legislation must do $100 Million in sales in the first year.
Meaning developers are looking to draw big businesses to Marion.
Bringing businesses like Gander Mountain to Marion is a start.
"Success breeds on success," said Mayor Butler.
The HUB Recreation Center is another example.
"Marion was just a great place to do it. It is growing, the people here are wonderful and they welcome businesses with open arms," said Marketing Director Hilary Lehew.
The future of this facility could mean the future of STAR Bond.
It doesn't stop with Gander Mountain; the land owner said he is working on two separate deals to get nationally known businesses to move to Marion.
Grander Mountain will open in 2015 and will bring more than 100 jobs to the area.
As it stands, Marion leaders are currently looking to hire on a new Master developer.
The new Gander Mountain in Marion will be located in a new 52,000-square-foot store at the northwest corner of Home Run Drive and Blue Heron Drive, just off I-57 at the Morgan Avenue exit.
It will be the eighth Gander Mountain location in Illinois.
Other Gander Mountains stores in Illinois include Champaign, Geneva, Joliet, Peoria, Rockford, Springfield and a recently opened store in Algonquin.
Gander Mountain's newest store will feature a large selection of new and used firearms in Illinois, together with gear and accessories for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery.
The store will offer an extensive selection of men's and women's active performance outdoor and casual apparel featuring.
Customers will have access to Gander Mountain's selection of new and used firearms around the country, whether the firearms are located at other stores, in central distribution facilities or on Gander Mountain's online store.
Customers may order firearms and have access to all of Gander Mountain's other equipment, merchandise, apparel and footwear by using online order kiosks with delivery and pick-up at their favorite Gander Mountain store.
Gander Mountain also recently announced the outdoor retail industry's first system-wide free Online Order Pick Up system, enabling customers to get the products they order online the same day they make the purchase.
