SIU students go 'cold turkey'

Students at Southern Illinois University are going "cold turkey" in an effort to "kick the habit."

Quite a few people signed up for the 4th annual Go Cold Turkey Bowl.

The event is held in support of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout.

The two person team involved one smoker and one nonsmoker bowling with frozen turkeys.

Those that do smoke, go "cold turkey" for one day.

"It's something creative and something to remember every time you want to smoke, you remember this incident - so to help you let it go," said Ryad Abdelgil, SIU student.

The suggested entry fee was a non-perishable food item or $1 that will be used to purchase a food item.

The donations will be given to local pantries and shelters.
